GUIDELINES FOR FINAL ESSAY
1. Your final essay should be 4,000-6,000 words. It should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides. Use 12-point font. Use Times New Roman. Number the pages.
2. Your final essay should focus on the theme of global transformations, and it should be clearly related to course readings and class discussions. Aside from these restrictions, you are free to write on whatever topic you like.
3. Your final essay should include an in-depth discussion of at least two course readings. Quote and paraphrase course readings liberally. Whenever you quote or paraphrase, use a parenthetical citation.
4. I am primarily interested in your ideas, but in addition to discussing at least two course readings, you must use a minimum of three high-quality outside sources. Be sure to cite these sources properly.
5. Your final essay should include a “Works Cited” page. Use the MLA format.
6. Your final essay should include a title page. The title page should include the title of your final essay, your name, the name of the course, the name of the instructor, and the date the final essay is submitted. Put some thought into the title of your final essay; think of a title that will catch a reader’s attention.
7. Optional: Before midnight on Friday, June 17, you may submit a one-page proposal for your final essay. The proposal will not be graded, but I will give you feedback that may help you write a stronger final essay.
8. Before midnight on Friday, July 1, you will submit your final essay. Please submit this via Turnitin. Late essays will be downgraded.
9. Your final essay should be highly polished. Pay close attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, organization, insightfulness of analysis, and the like.
10. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE! Students who plagiarize will receive a zero for their final essay.
