How would you describe ICT penetration in Kenya? In Africa? How does it compare to ICT penetration in the US and to other developing countries?
Was Safaricom’s entry into m-Pesa not risky in the sense that it would have taken away Safaricom’s focus from its core business of providing telephone services?
Why does it make sense for Safaricom to provide free services to its customers and yet charge its agents? This is opposite of many other agent based services where the customers may or may not be explicitly charged for service (or it may be part of the revenue model) and agents are often subsidized for provisioning the service ( Insurance agents, travel agents, etc.)
Safaricom does not use even a monthly subscription for its services? Is this in contradiction to the standard practice of banks who charge customers a monthly fee?
How should traditional banks in Africa address challenges posed by emergence of m-Pesa?
Have similar phone based money transfer services emerged in other countries?
