The essay is an obligatory basic. The best essay deals often with a particular piece of Art or Architecture from Central Europe – or least a piece of Art You have seen and experienced directly during this semester. (e.g. a Painting from the National Gallery).

The most welcome essays are:

1) A description of a piece of Art

2) A comparison of two different pieces of Art

3) More advanced students may write a review of an exhibition or a sight You have seen with the Program ( e.g. an exhibition on Van Dyck portraits in the National Gallery)

Do not use superlatives such as: Alfons Mucha is great and try to find an original topic. Try to be clear and original.
It is strictly prohibited to give one essay in two different classes – for example a study on the Czech photography or on the Prague monuments. The teachers are in close contact and find out immediately any cheating.
The essay should be 6 pages double spaced and you are encouraged to use images to appropriately articulate some of your ideas.
