The abstract is clear and allows potential readers to decide whether or not they want to continue reading and learn more about this topic.
The introduction presents the main points of the paper clearly.
Enough background information is provided to allow the reader to understand the rest of the information being presented.
The main points are stated clearly.
Main points are supported with details and discussion.
Information from sources is properly cited in the body of the paper.
The conclusions are based on the information previously presented.
Bibliography has sources that present an overall view of the stated problem.
The paper looks professional.
The writing style allows the reader to move easily from point to point.
A lower grade will result if your research project looks like this:
Deadlines for milestones were not always met.
The student seemed to run out of time. The paper could be better with some revisions.
Bibliography could benefit from more sources that present other aspects of the stated problem.
Information from sources is properly cited in the body of the paper, but the citations don’t quite meet the APA guidelines.
The topic is stated, but it could be defined more clearly and sharply
The background information is adequate, but some readers might have some important questions that remain unanswered.
The writing style tries to move the reader from point to point, but it sometimes is hard to follow the flow of the reasoning.
The abstract needs to be clearer so that the reader can decide whether or not to continue.
The introduction needs to be revised so that it presents all of the main points in the paper.
Main points usually are clear, but occasionally the main points are confused with the details.
The conclusions seem reasonable but need more support.

An unacceptable research paper contains one, some, or all of the following characteristics:
The paper is plagiarized.

The bibliography needs better sources – the selected sources offer a very limited view of the stated problem.
Information from sources is not properly cited in the body of the paper.
Background information is sketchy at best.
The paper looks unprofessional.
The writing style is muddled; readers are confused.
The abstract is either absent or seems unrelated to the purpose of the paper.
The introduction does not prepare the reader for the rest of the paper.
Main points and details are a jumbled together.
The conclusions are either not presented or are a surprise to the reader.
