Currently I feel that UB (University at Buffalo) is not a fit for me. As it is located in the city of Buffalo, internship opportunities are scarce. The department for chemical engineering is also combined with biological engineering, and I feel that there are not much resources poured into support for students and research in this field.
Northeastern has a mandatory co-op program which I love. Everybody is given an opportunity for internships. This is especially great for international students like me, with more limited chances.
It is also located in Boston, where there are many big engineering firms that offer more advantageous internship choices. Also, since I studied in a high school not far away from Boston, I have many contacts and connections in Boston that I can make use of.
Its prestigious ranking, amazing co-op program and a location in a big city attracts me to Northeastern, and it is my #1 choice school. I also applied during my senior year in high school, but got rejected.
My goal in transferring to Northeastern is to accumulate experience through co-op and interships while still in school, and graduate with the experience needed to easily look for a job. If I can’t find a job, I can apply for a minor in business or pursue an MBA at Northeastern, which is one of the top business schools in the US. My dream is to run my own chemical solutions distribution company( pigments, additives and soluble dyes) with my chemical engineering and business degree.
During my first semester of university, I took a course called EAS140 – Engineering Principles, in which my group of 4 people built a miniature wind turbine. In the course, I went through a process of figuring out the concept, different design factors, experiment and compared the performance with different design factors, and optimized the performance of the wind turbine. My group got a design award and the turbine power output was ranked 2nd in the course’s history.
Highschool: The Macduffie School class of 15
Current university: SUNY at Buffalo class of 19
