Topic: Two versions of the music “Respect”

Listen to the two versions of “Respect” — Otis Redding’s original and the famous cover by Aretha Franklin — posted on Moodle. Write an essay of 1000 to 1500 words comparing and contrasting these two versions. There should be two sections in your essay. #1 Write about the similarities and differences between the two versions that you think are most important. When thinking about what to write make sure that you consider all the elements of music including the lyrics. #2 Explain why you think the differences and similarities you’ve identify exist. Consider the influence of race and gender in your answer. This essay will be graded using the General Rubric.
