Monotheism in the Ancient World

Monotheism in the Ancient World

Paper details:

• Consider the ancient civilizations from Judea to Persia, Greece and Rome.
• Take a look at the sources in Perry’s sourcebook that relate to monotheism
and read the sections in the text that refer to it too.
• Write a 5-page essay, using at least four primary sources of your choosing from the Perry Sourcebook, answering the following:
What were some of the effects of the idea of monotheism in the ancient world, from its inception in Judea through to the decline of Rome?
• Make sure you have a clear thesis statement. What is your argument? Do more than just summarize, describe, compare and contrast; make a coherent claim.
• The paper will be graded based on TOES – Thesis/Organization/Evidence/Style.
• With regard to primary sources, consider: What do they seem to say? What is the main content or substance? What meaning may we derive from them?
What are their limitations? What biases might be apparent? What don’t they say?
The essay is going to be based on Chapter 4 to 7
