2. Pick a person, place, or thing and describe it. You can organize it either chronologically or spatially.
3. Pick a dominant impression – see page 272
4. Use more than one kind of sensory detail (or all five, if you like) in your description – see pages 270-271
5. Use a comparison such as simile, metaphor, or personification.
6. use spatial organization – have a clear vantage point (fixed or moving) – page 274
7. Follow the outline (figure 12.1) on page 275 to organize essay. Good example on page 278.
8. Create the outline first – this is very important!
