Edward Arthur Imperator is a half Italian and half American born 8/7/1925 in West New York, New Jersey. As a youngest of the 9 children, Arthur became a head of the family business. From the tracking company for today imerium of real state and NY Waterline. He is of American nationality and a prominent businessman known for founding the NY Waterway ferry service along the Weehawken – West New York waterfront, New Jersey. He attained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the Yale University, a Master of History at Harvard University, a Law Degree from the Columbia University School of Law and a Master of Science in Real Estate Development at Columbia University GSAPP. He’s also an assistant professor at Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University.
Edward and his brothers initiated a homegrown trucking occupation in 1947 using a spare of US Army wagon that finally developed to APA Transport. The transport company was closed in 2002 after being the 4th largest at one time in the country. In 1978, he procured Colorado Rockies hockey club that he later sold to John McMullen in 1982. Edward fathers three children, nine grandchildren, plus a 70-year-old stepson. He was the chairperson of the board of New York City Ferry Corporation. In 1986, the idea to create the NY Waterway ferry service was put in place to ferry commuters across Manhattan to a few sites down the Hudson River water’s edge, New Jersey. Critics termed the stir a description of pecuniary suicide, although it was a success. Up until around 1800’s, ferries solely provided the means to travel to Manhattan, but their use faded as bridges, vehicles and train tunnels were developed.
In 1986, Arthur E. Imperator together with his family revitalized the New York dock with the introduction of the foremost NY Waterway ferry. Ever since, the freight has transported over 65 million people. The family now runs the biggest ferry and tour fleet in the Harbor. The business still maintains the good services that were provided by Arthur. NY Waterway maintains a convoy of assorted style vessels that offer one hundred and forty-nine commuters dual deck catamarans, solo deck catamarans, and three hundred and ninety-nine commuter dual floor cladding yacht. Inland transportation of a convoy of 45 commuter coaches is available with NY Waterway.
Like any other businessmen, Arthur has faced challenges in his business as well as considerable achievements. The 11th September assault on the World Trade Center cut off the PATH train connection with Manhattan, initiating the need for ferry services. The business used $10 million to acquire new vessels to meet their new demand. The opportunity diminished as PATH service resumed. The return of PATH service left the NY Waterway with inadequate returns and with debt as the price of fuel short up. The company was on the verge of closure in 2005 when it was hampered with costly contracts of operating routes of the Port Authority of New York, New Jersey and New York City. It later resumed after BillyBey took 16 of NY Waterway routes and boats, to relieve the business of $19.1 million debt. These routes are now fully managed by the NY Waterway. After the September 11 attack, the New York and new communication stoped working immediately for next a couple days. The Path train service, which was only one fast train service between New York downtown area and Jersey City and Newark in New Jersey was completely destroyed. That was no path back home for thousands residents of New Jersey. The NY Waterway was working for free for a next few months, nor the company managed to take loan for $10 million at this time to purchase 5 more boats to help with communication between both states. The company entered into a deal with the Port Authority to run ferry routes casting company $50.000 per month just and up gas prices. The same year, 2001, still company shadow down for 2 workweeks during the freezing of water on Hudson River. Therefore, NY Waterway was the biggest beneficiary of $81, 5 million on 9/11 aid devoted to improving and build new ferry terminals in Manhattan and New Jersey. On August 13, 2003 again the NY Waterway became the only way to go back home for a resident of New Jersey and New York. When the north country struck by the blackout and no power only the boats were able to communicate without the power. 150. 000 of residents living close in the area were able to come back home. The ride was free for next 3 days.
Just a few months after in November 2003 the NY Waterway company was broke, frankly Waterway was bailed out by a wealthy investor.
Another incident which showed how the company give the great management program for the employee was fast, difficult and really dangerous action of saving all, 155 passengers and crew member of flight US Airways. The NY Waterway boats were the first responders to emergency landing by Capt Sullenberger on Hudson River. The water temperature on January 15, 2009 was not more higher 34 F and air 20F , The Thomas Jefferson boat was 4 minutes after the plane touch down into the river, a few minutes later the Goverman Thomas Kean with young. It’s this miracle, nobody dies. This particular example shows that in an emergency situation the Capt of the NY Waterway is managing to save lives as priority in an emergency situation. During the investigation the NY Waterway was not able to provide the service for the next 3 days.
After venturing of run off for financial trouble in 2005 Mr. Imperatore was able to afloat family company, he invests his own money, including $20 millions dollars in 2010-12.

In spite of the fitness of the ferry company, the Imperator domain has seen downfalls. Arthur Sr. whom made it to the list of the rich in 1988 with $230 million, lost 90 acres of his Hudson Riverside, after he dropped $8 million short of a $50 million loan he had acquired. When APA transport collapsed, the family business at that instant found itself at the focus of lawsuits relating six allowance funds of an approximate compulsion amounting to $8.2 million. Arthur has been linked to two-panel members in two diverse organizations and three diverse industries.
As a manager / Owner some people would say the company trouble began because they are generally the Good Samaritan that respond to any Emergency on the water. On the other hand, what a kind the company would stay behind if somebody needs help. If there is a line between money and human life, where should be the start or end. In my opinion, it is nothing wrong with old fashion business tradition, because that’s what is the company of Arthur Imperator’s it is. Sometimes it is better to provide the business with class and rights, that something chaotic. We can forget that Mr. Imperator was a formal Army soldier during the time 1945-1949, which probably put some interest in building the business. Today, the company owns the couple residential building on 38 street in New York City, invested in a few restaurant buildings and more real state business.
S W O T Analize
Strengths: The most faster public commutes way to get to Manhattan from New Jersey. People saving a tone of time on traffic and tools price, which at this point it is much cheaper that tunnels. Comfort of traveling, as today the company will invest millions in better, more comfort and much faster boats for passengers on South side of New Jersey. Also, the NY Waterway company provides a free shuttle bus.
Weaknesses: People with tens of sickness during the wind and bad weather time will definitely avoid the type of the travelling. Also, the cheapest way to travel to New York City from New Jersey, as an example; The Path train, from Newark cost only $2.75, going to Midletown in New Jersey via NY Waterline cost $21.50, also Path train operates 24 hours scheduled, where the NY Waterline works only until 9:30 pm.
Opportunities: During the change on every edge of the Hudson River the NY Waterway company has the opportunity to open more stops. Soon would be able to open another stop on pier 17 (Fulton Street). The company is known as great touristic attractive with a free ride around Mahattan’s piers. Open for group scheduling. Easy access to apps, information and trip details.
Threats: Accpet the NY Waterway there a few more companies operated on the Hudson River and piers of New Jersey: The NY Water Taxi, the State Island Ferry which is a free and Seastreak ferry. This field is open for more companies which can able to operate on better, faster and more luxurious boats. Another a threats is technology, the new companies may able to use the more organic and advisement friendly gas or boats.
