Assignment 1 requires you to examine a selected professional learning context to:
• identify contextual factors impacting your professional learning
• identify critical learning needs within this workplace
• compare different ways these needs might be addressed, and
• develop a Professional Learning Project (see proforma).

Assignment framework
It will be easier if you fill the two tables (part A and part B) at first.
Please do not use the first person when writing the paper.
1. What are the key elements/characteristics of the selected professional learning context?
o Consider how these elements impact on you current and future professional learning needs, and on the approaches which you might use to respond to these needs.
o Relate your own learning needs to the priorities of your workplace and consider the scope for impact of your learning to the broader work setting.
Factors impacting: e.g. culture, lack of collegiality, lack of trust ect…

o Critique the strengths and weaknesses in the current approaches and practices.

o Analyse their suitability and applicability for your current context and your personal learning needs.

This part could be written under 2 headings
Applicability of the most relevant approach to the school
why the approach (scaffolded learning conversations) is most relevant to the school and needs based on the weaknesses discussed above in the paper. How it could be adopted in the school.
Provide concrete examples and use the literature to support

Professional learning project

Depth of the project… Description of the process, what kind of interview, how the interview will be conducted and who will see the results? What is the focused group? Who will the non participants be that has no stake in the observation? How will the head of the school fit into this. When will the major stages of the project be conducted? What factors may impact the implementation of this investigation?
