Research, design and build a digital control system based on a PC, a Labjack I/O device and MATLAB
software to control the level of liquid in a tank to an accuracy of +/-2mm.
Design and build the interfacing circuitry between the Labjack and the pump and level sensor on the tank
system.
Write a MATLAB program to control the level of liquid in the tank based on Proportional–Integral (PI) controller.
Your MATLAB program should be used to post process the signals from the level sensor to produce graphical
display showing the set point liquid level and the measured liquid level in the tank. Your program should also
enable the time history of these variables to be displayed.
The project will be assessed on the basis of the Interfacing circuit design and construction [3 marks] and a
report [12 marks].
The report should include a discussion on the optimisation of the controller parameters and on the stability of
the system. The report should also include a critical discussion on the control techniques used in this nonlinear
application, and suggestions for improvements to the overall system.
You may work in a group of no more than three people.
Each student must produce their own individual report.
