Ethical egoism

Rand distinguishes between Objectivism. or Ethical Egoism (an obligatory act is one that best promotes our rational self-interest). and Altruism (an obligatory act is one that best promotes not our interests but those of others). The former seems to imply that the interests of others are relevant to our moral obligations only insofar as they relate to our rational self-interest. The latter seems to imply that our interests are relevant to our moral obligations only insofar as they relate to the interests of others.
Develop a third view of how our interests and those of others relate to our moral obligations. Assess your third alternative relative to Ethical Egoism and Altruism. Are any of them superior to the others? Why or why not?
