1. Read Epic of Gilgamesh.
free write a bit on the following: How might your reading of Gilgamesh help you examine, even solve, this problem? Think about how the epic itself or one or more of the characters relates to the world, asks questions and/or examines those issues that concern them.
2. Read Genesis & Exodus
Choose one or two specific passages from Genesis or Exodus that illustrate the relationships between god and human. What, if any, similarities do you see between these relationships and the ones in Gilgamesh? What do these texts say about community?
3. Read Matthew
Choose one or two parables and read them closely. Aside from the religious aspects of these texts, how can we use the stories here to help us today? That is, what emerges from your readings this week that can help you with your current (non-spiritual) concerns? What do they say, assume, teach? To whom? Do they have contemporary meaning for you?4. Read Quran: The Cow Huston Smiths chapter on Islam in The Worlds Religions
Choose one or two specific passages from the Quran that illustrate the relationships between god and human. What, if any, similarities do you see between these relationships and the ones in either Gilgamesh or Genesis? What do these texts say about community?
