I CHOOSE The impact of Consumption and Investment on the GDP in Qatar (1990- 2013)

ACCG224 Research Based Case Study Report and Presentation
Instructions

Requirements for the Report:

Structure: The report requires the conventional structure of a business research report, including (in
this order) a report cover page, a table of contents, an executive summary, an introduction, body,
conclusion/recommendations, a list of references and an appendix showing all relevant parts of the
annual report (statements and notes) that you have used and referred to in your report. Do not copy
these parts as text into your document but as pictures so that the original formatting, font and
layout is maintained. Do not attach the entire annual report.

Length: The total word length of the report is 2,000 words. A leeway of +/-10% is allowed. Report
cover page, table of contents, list of references and appendices will not be counted in the word
count. You need to provide the word count on the report cover page.

Style: You need to write in full sentences. Lists, figures, diagrams, tables etc. may be included to
support your writing, however, you need to write all parts of the report in full sentences.

Font/print: The assignment should be one and a half spaced in ‘Times New Roman’ font type and
font size 12.

Referencing: You are expected and required to use references to support your report, for example,
textbooks, accounting standards and other reporting guidelines, journal articles and other academic
literature. Any sources of information that you have used must be referenced (in-text citations and
list of references) according to the Harvard Referencing System (available in section 14 of the
ACCG224 iLearn webpage).

Plagiarism: It is extremely important that you are familiar with the university policy on Academic
Honesty (Plagiarism).

Requirements for the presentation:

. Every student has to prepare and deliver an individual presentation.

. You have to present the major findings of your research report. That means your
presentation should have the following three parts:
a. a brief description of your company’s background and its current accounting practice
regarding the disclosures of sources of estimation uncertainty and judgements in
applying accounting policies.
b. any potential gap between your company’s current practice and the accounting
standard requirements.
c. recommended actions to satisfy the potential ASIC reviewers.

. Each presentation will be for 5 minutes.

. The use of a slide show (Microsoft Powerpoint or similar presentation applications) is
optional. Because classrooms have a variety of equipment no extra marks will be awarded
for the preparation of a slide show. However, the use of visual aids may make your
presentation more interesting and is, in general, encouraged. There is at least a whiteboard
in every classroom. But always keep it mind: in the end, the substance of your presentation
will earn the marks, not so much the form you chose to present.

. If you decide not to use slides you need to type a summary of your presentation which
clearly shows the structure and content of the presentation you will deliver. There are no
formal requirements for this summary.

Marking Guide:

. Overall, the assessment task ‘Report and Presentation’ will be 20% of your final grade.
. Your report will be marked out of 60 marks, and will be converted to 15%, based on the
marking rubrics which will be provided in a separate document ‘Report and Presentation:
Marking rubrics for the report’ (section 14 of the ACCG224 iLearn webpage).
. Your presentation will be marked out of 40 marks and converted to 5%, based on the
marking rubrics which will be provided in the assignment ‘Report and Presentation –
Presentation part’ (section 14 of the ACCG224 iLearn webpage).

Further Assistance (see section 14 of the ACCG224 iLearn webpage):

. Watch the video on business report writing.
. For the structure and format of a research report, please have a look at the document
‘Example – Business Research Report’.
. For the presentation, read and follow the tips in the document ‘Presentation: Tips for the
structure and transitions’.
. Your questions in the Q&A forum ‘Report and Presentation’ on the ACCG224 iLearn webpage
will be answered by teaching staff until

Friday, 12 December 2014, 5pm.

. After this date you are welcome to discuss questions around the Report and Presentation in
this forum with your peers. However, past experience has shown that many students find
the continuing responses from teaching staff rather confusing than helpful once they have
made some progress with their reports. Also, from a certain point in time on, the questions
become repetitive.

Submission:

Due date: Monday 22 December 2014, 11pm

. You must submit your assignment through Turnitin on iLearn.
. Do not submit your assignment to your tutor.
. Hard copies of the assignment will NOT be marked. Only Turnitin
Submissions will be marked.
. Please note that you are allowed to submit only once through Turnitin.
You will not be allowed to revise your assignment once it is submitted,
therefore, only submit the final version.
. Please ensure that you write your full name and student ID on the first
page of the assignment.
. Late assignments will incur a penalty of 25% of the total assignment
mark for each day late.
