Emergency situations
Paper details:
Conventional wisdom seems to be that it is panic that causes people to make poor decisions in an emergency situation and which may lead to more people dying than should. However, the supplemental reading for this week suggests that it is exactly the opposite: people act as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened, wait for others to tell them what to do or rescue them, or are paralyzed by fear into inactivity.
Why do you think that is? What can you do to initiate self-help in an emergency situation? Discuss.
